WHAT IS SHADOW WORK?

Think of it as your subconscious self that works in the shadows and influences your emotions, behaviors, and reactions on a day-to-day basis. It's our darkest emotions, traits, and traumas that we often suppress and ignore. These can sometimes become the source of issues we face so by doing what is called Shadow Work. We can bring these issues to the surface to explore and process them.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SHADOW WORK?

Shadow Work is designed to help bring the emotions, behaviors, and reactions we consider negative to the forefront and process them to heal and accept ourselves we who we are regardless of faults or flaws. Shadow Work is about making oneself become more whole and express ourselves in healthy ways rather than suppressing anything that doesn't fit neatly with everything else.

Shadow Work promotes: -

  • Self-care
  • Self-acceptance
  • Forgiveness
  • Self-love
  • Balance

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

Always practice self-care and/or meditation after each Shadow Work session. It is hard work and will make you feel uncomfortable so it's important to calm your mind afterward. Be honest with yourself, no one other than you should read your Shadow Work so don't hold back. Start with the journal prompts first, these will help get your thoughts down onto paper and make it easier to process and have ideas for other worksheets included. Always ask why. Everything you write you should be asking why things are that way. Try to dig deep into your responses and figure out where the connections are between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Be kind to yourself. Shadow Work is not about bringing yourself down or judging yourself. Instead, be accepting, compassionate, and kind about your thoughts and discoveries. Remember we all have flaws, no one is ever perfect and it's perfectly okay!
